Chef Alex Grant

Food has been a passion of Chef Alex Grant since he started cooking with his dad at the age of five. Alex has studied food preparation throughout his life and has cooked professionally for over 20 years. He is a graduate of the prestigious Johnson and Wales University in Providence Rhode Island where he graduated with honors while also being a student athlete.

Alex feels privileged to have worked under some extraordinary Chefs, increasing his knowledge until the opportunity arose to pursue one of his true passions – teaching. Alex wrote the culinary arts curriculum for Machias High School and established the culinary arts program. After that, he went on to teach at the college level at Washington County Tech College in Calais.

At the age of 21, Alex took a small business loan and leased his first restaurant, later opening. The Seafarer’s Wife in Jonesport. He has also designed two independent restaurants, including the Clubhouse Bar and Grille in Rockport.

Alex’s wife Betsey runs Big Cat’s bartending services providing bartenders and servers for any occasion.

Big Cats Event Center, Catering and Restaurant are a dream come true for the Grants! They would love to make your dreams come true at your next event or special celebration.

  • Our Wedding

flowersThank you Alex! When we called you a month before our wedding day in the hope you could cater for us little did we know that your food would actually be the hit of the wedding! All I can say is that you exceeded our expectations and blew our guests away with the presentation and the quality.

Even better was that, due to our time constrictions, we decided to put the entire menu in your capable hands...you truly went above and beyond! To this day people come up to us and remark on our wedding...most of them comment on the beautiful day or maybe the fun they had dancing, but ALL of them eventually rave about your food.
